During an off-duty firefighter's demonstration in Mong Kok in November last year, police officers witnessed him dropping petrol bombs on the ground and resisted arrest. He was found to have switchblade and stylus on his body.

The firefighter and two other men pleaded guilty in the District Court today (28th).

The defense lawyer pleaded that the firefighter defendant was ashamed and regretted about the incident. If time goes back, he may make a different choice. The lawyer also revealed that he was awarded the "Sweet Chicken Rope" after a rescue operation in 2017.

The judge first obtained reports on the background and the reeducation center for the defendant before making sentence. The case was postponed until January 15 next year.

Fireman defendant pleaded guilty to 5 counts

Three defendants: Fang Zhixiong (34 years old, firefighter), 17-year-old male student surnamed Lin and Zhao Haojun (26 years old, bank employee).

Fang admitted that he had participated in illegal assembly, resisted police officer X, possessed switchblade, hammer, stylus, 4 petrol bombs and wireless microphones, which involved 5 crimes, including illegal assembly, resisted police officer, possessed prohibited weapons, possessed possessions With intent to damage property and possess radio communication equipment.

Lin and Zhao also pleaded guilty to illegal assembling. Zhao also pleaded guilty to possessing objects with intent to damage property, namely two petrol bombs and two lighters.

The chicken rope that won the department's highest honor

Fang's lawyer pleaded for mercy, saying that he understands the seriousness of the charges and imprisonment is inevitable. He feels ashamed and regrets the incident. He also said that he acted blindly at the time. If time goes back, he might make different choices.

The lawyer also submitted 17 letters of appeal, one of which was co-signed by more than 50 firefighters. The letter of appeal showed his outstanding performance, professionalism, and enthusiasm. The boss also mentioned that he was willing to help colleagues.

The lawyer also revealed that after a rescue operation in 2017, Fang was awarded the department's highest honor, the "Huaji Rope". Fang always puts public safety first and works diligently.

Student defendant expected to be admitted to HKBU Sports Department

Lin's lawyer pleaded that he was an outstanding student with a talent for sports. He plans to become a football player or coach in the future. He has good grades and is expected to be admitted to the Department of Physical Education of HKBU.

Zhao’s lawyer stated that he has been remanded for 13 months and has been taught a difficult lesson.

The police officer dropped the petrol bomb on the ground

The facts of the case allege that a large number of people assembled on Nathan Road and Shantung Street in Mong Kok on November 10 last year. The police later dispersed them and arrested three defendants.

A police officer witnessed Fang holding a petrol bomb and dumping it on the road. When the police officer subdued him, he fought fiercely, including hitting the policeman's helmet and visor and pushing the policeman up.

The police found switch knives, wireless microphones, hammers, styluses, 4 petrol bombs, etc. on Fang; and found petrol bombs and lighters in Zhao's backpack.
