What do airlines actually do when passengers on the plane refuse to wear their masks correctly?
A Russian airline has separate seats ready for this case.
The airline Aeroflot is Russia's largest airline and has recently announced that it will in future
keep seats
free
for mask refusers
on board its aircraft
.
However, this should not be a circumvention of the
Corona guidelines
* - which include wearing
mouth and nose protection
.
If passengers refuse to put on a mask before boarding, they will not even be allowed on board the aircraft.
Russian airline relies on extra seats for mask refusers
The problem is rather those passengers who are already on the plane and then refuse
to wear
the
mouth and nose protection (correctly)
.
Areoflot has now announced that it will place such passengers in the
last two rows of seats
on one side of the aircraft in specially designated seats.
The background is of course
to protect other passengers
.
Isolating a specific section of the aircraft can somewhat reduce the likelihood that a traveling mask refuser will pass the coronavirus on to someone who is sitting next to him.
According to a spokeswoman for the airline, these seats are
intended
as an
emergency
measure.
It is not yet known whether there are any further delimitations to the other passengers on board.

This is how German airlines deal with mask refusers
With
German airlines
, too, it is currently mandatory for passengers
to wear mouth and nose protection on board the aircraft
.
An airline can
deny boarding to anyone
who does not comply
.
When asked by Travelbook, Eurowings said, for example: "If the correct wearing of the mask is refused despite repeated requests, the airline also reserves the right
to notify
the
local authorities at the place of arrival and to issue
a flight ban for future flights with Eurowings." Von Tui expressed an even tougher approach to Travelbook: Mask refusals on the plane are threatened with "various escalation levels, including an
unscheduled landing
".
The Russian airline Aeroflot is so far the only known airline that has specially designated seats for mask refusers.
