The police will be deployed in large numbers on New Year's Eve in Berlin.
A spokeswoman for the Berlin police said that up to 2,900 additional workers would enforce the fireworks ban that applies in many places in the capital from the afternoon to the night.
Accordingly, there are also 600 officers from other federal states among the 2900 police officers.
The ignition of firecrackers remains prohibited in many places in Berlin.
The Senate last week released a list of 56 places where that will be the case.
These include large squares and sights such as Potsdamer Platz, Breitscheidplatz and the Brandenburg Gate.
Staying in these places is also prohibited.
In addition, in the capital - as everywhere - there is a strict ban on the sale of fireworks.
The Berlin fire brigade is preparing for a kind of state of emergency on New Year's Eve.
A total of around 850 people from the professional fire brigade are to be deployed as well as more than 520 volunteers from the volunteer fire brigades.
In addition, there would be around 120 emergency services from the Bundeswehr and the technical relief organization.
Interior Senator Geisel urges citizens to stay at home
Police chief Barbara Slowik sees the emergency services well prepared for the turn of the year.
"We will also react flexibly and prudently to surprises that cannot be ruled out in such an operation."
Interior Senator Andreas Geisel (SPD) added: “The whole point of all measures on New Year's Eve is to reduce the risk of infection.
I appeal to the common sense and the sense of responsibility of the people: Protect yourself and your fellow men on New Year's Eve too.
If you're wondering what the best thing to do at the turn of the year: stay at home and see you there in 2021, which will hopefully be a better year than this. "
