A new resident of Garmisch-Partenkirchen had an unpleasant encounter: probably because of his Munich license plate, a man spat in front of his car.

A new resident of Garmisch-Partenkirchen had an unpleasant encounter: probably because of his Munich license plate, a man spat in front of his car.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

- Advent and Christmas are traditionally a peaceful time.

Also in the idyllic Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

But the smoldering dispute between locals and (supposed) day trippers has not yet been overcome.

A new citizen made an unpleasant encounter with which he is now going public.

Neu-Garmisch-Partenkirchner works as a doctor on the Corona station

Manuel Viehmann (36) is a

doctor at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen clinic

.

He works in "internal medicine", is on duty in the corona isolation ward, in the emergency room, is on night duty as an emergency doctor and takes on assignments from colleagues who are absent due to corona disease.

In April he moved with his wife and two children aged four and six from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, very close to the Zugspitze.

After all, his wife has also been working in the market town for over two years.

Shock scene in the car: children have to watch everything

They feel very comfortable, enjoy the market town and the surrounding area, and have already made many contacts.

“Our children go to school and kindergarten

.

We appreciate life in this place and try to give something back to the place and the people

. ”But what the family experienced on the fourth Advent on the doorstep shook the Viehmanns.

“We started out as a family on a short hiking excursion by car.

A couple were walking a few yards away.

Actually nothing extraordinary, ”says Viehmann of our editorial team.

Encounter with Munich haters: "He stares at us angrily and spits in front of our car"

But then: "The big man with a very big dog looks at us, sees our license plate with the 'M' for Munich, glares at us angrily, lowers his eyes and

spits in front of our car

." Viehmann is outraged, his children ask him why the man did this.

“I don't know what to answer.

I can't explain the situation at this moment, ”the doctor describes his reaction.

He describes the behavior towards his children as disgusting and stupid.

And he wants to make it public and thus stimulate thought.

Even before the spit attack: Garmisch-Partenkirchner tried to change license plates

Viehmann has been trying

to change

his

license plate

since April

- and he just can't get an appointment.

But the fact that his Munich license plate triggers such anger in an apparently local resident does not leave him calm.

After all, his case shows that you can change your place of residence without changing your registration number.

His colleagues live in Tyrol and drive to Garmisch-Partenkirchen to work at the clinic with an Austrian license plate.

Other people in Garmisch-Partenkirchen have a company car with Munich license plates.

But regardless of whether the drivers of a car with a Munich license plate now live in Garmisch-Partenkirchen or not: "Where does the

anger at people from Munich

and Bavaria come from?" Asks Viehmann.

In the hospital and from the ambulance service, everyone receives immediate help - regardless of where they come from, how they speak or what license plate is on their car.

Where does the hatred of Munich come from?

"Everyone wants to go to the area with beautiful nature"

Of course, Viehmann knows about the debates of the past few months.

“Everyone wants to go to the area with beautiful nature,” he knows of course from his time in Munich.

As a new resident, he now also complains about the excesses of

excursion traffic

, the garbage that is left lying around, mobile homes, the streets being parked.

Viehmann sees both sides.

The medical professional hopes that people will start talking to each other instead of showing angry gestures.

“I think the conflict between the locals and the excursionists cannot be resolved within a short period of time. That requires new ideas and too many structural changes.

The situation can only be improved with mutual consideration, especially on the part of the day trippers. ”

Such angry reactions as the Viehmanns have experienced are a side effect of the corona crisis for the doctor.

He wishes "that we treat each other with respect and not angry or hostile in this very difficult and deprived time for everyone".

Incidentally, not the first hostility on the edge of the Alps because of a Munich license plate.

During the first corona wave, the situation at Tegernsee escalated completely.
