A group of academics will seek to compile the names of 6,500 people who invested in the trade of slaves, in an investigation that will have funding from the United Kingdom.
The study comes after a year of debates about the British colonial past, in which even several statues and public monuments raised in honor of the slave owners were removed after the demonstrations of "Black Lives Matter".
