On the occasion of the 69th Tree Day, and under the slogan (Our Land… Gold), the Lattakia Agriculture Directorate, with the participation of a number of public institutions and student and youth activities, carried out an afforestation campaign that included planting two thousand different seedlings at the site of the king in Khirbet Solas in Lattakia countryside.
The Governor of Latakia, Ibrahim Khader Al-Salem, told reporters during afforestation that choosing this site to celebrate the Festival of the Tree was due to its exposure to fires at the hands of terrorists in 2012, pointing out to start from this place and in all directions to replant the forests that were exposed to fires.
Engineer Munther Khair Bey, Director of Lattakia Agriculture, confirmed that the afforestation campaign will start from this point to be the beginning of the journey to cultivate 1000 hectares at the governorate level, which can accommodate 580 thousand seedlings. Efforts and capabilities have been put at the disposal of the Agriculture Directorate to accomplish this mission.
Engineer Basem Duba, head of the forestry department in the Directorate of Agriculture indicated that the plantation of an area of 3 hectares of about 2,000 plants was chosen, and the plants of the original region, which are scientifically and thoughtfully selected varieties of fruit pine, kernoub and laurel, indicating that since the beginning of the afforestation season, the Directorate of Agriculture has launched afforestation campaigns for all parties willing to participate To date, 19 campaigns have been implemented by several governmental, non-governmental, official and unofficial agencies, in which 19,000 seedlings have been planted on an area of about 30 hectares.
Raghad Jabirah from the Revolutionary Youth Union called on everyone to participate in the afforestation campaigns, preserve forests, and not set fires randomly when visiting her, while an Ajamiah princess expressed her love for this land and the homeland through her participation in the afforestation campaign.
Dr. Amin Moamen Saleh from Yemen, the brother of the Secretary of the Arab Student Division at Tishreen University, considered that his presence in the afforestation campaign is to prove that the people of Yemen are always with Syria and that Syria is in the heart of every honorable Arab, expressing his happiness for his participation in planting trees to restore life to the mountains that have been sabotaged and fires as a result of terrorism.
Eng. Haitham Ismail Amin, Lattakia Branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, participated in the afforestation campaign, as well as official and popular events.
