Russian police today (Tuesday) arrested a rebellious Russian monk, who denies the existence of the corona virus, in a raid on a monastery he took over in the Ural Mountains.

Father Sergei is accused, among other things, of encouraging minors to commit suicide after he barricaded himself in the Sardanurelsk convent, which he founded a few years ago, since June and has since refused to leave the place.

During his arrest, clashes broke out between the police and his supporters, and several people were lightly beaten.

Dozens of volunteers, including veterans of the war in eastern Ukraine, helped him enforce the laws, after the monastery leader and several nuns left.

Hundreds of believers from cities in the Ural Mountains flocked to the site to listen to the father's assertive sermons.

The Russian Orthodox Church has condemned the monk, saying he was banned from leading church services and urged him to retaliate.

In May, he was banned from wearing a cross after encouraging believers not to obey health officials' instructions, which included closing churches between April and June.

Father Sergei came out against the electronic means implemented in Moscow and other regions as part of the fight against the plague, calling it an "electronic camp of the devil."

He described the developed vaccine against the virus as part of a global conspiracy to control the masses.

Later in the day, Father Sergei's supporters posted a video in which he says he is in good condition.

"Forgive them, God, for not knowing what they are doing, and even if they did, forgive them anyway," he said of those who arrested him.

According to the charges against him, he "publicly" called on at least ten nuns to commit suicide and posted a recording of a sermon on YouTube.

During the same sermon, he asked the believers if they were willing to "give their lives" for the sake of Russia, their children and their future.
