A figure in the Corsican milieu, Joseph Menconi, was indicted in an investigation relating in particular to an attempt to escape from prison by the multi-repeat robber Redoine Faïd, a judicial source said Tuesday, December 29, confirming information from the Parisian.

Menconi was indicted for "
criminal association with a view to preparing an offense punishable by ten years' imprisonment
" and placed under judicial supervision, the same source said.
According to his lawyer Amaury Auzou, this indictment took place on November 27 and the placement under judicial supervision was obtained "
against the advice of the investigating magistrate and the Paris prosecutor's office
".
Menconi is suspected of having been asked to provide part of the logistics necessary for a plan to escape by Redoine Faïd from the prison of Fresnes (Val-de-Marne) scheduled for the summer of 2017, which he "
contests

strongly,
”said his lawyer.
Redoine Faïd finally managed to escape a year later, on July 1, 2018, thanks to an armed commando dropped by helicopter in the courtyard of the Réau prison (Seine-et-Marne).
After three months on the run, the robber was arrested on October 3, 2018 in Creil (Oise).
At least two brothers of Redoine Faïd, Rachid and Brahim, as well as three nephews, but also Jacques Mariani, figure of Corsican banditry, have already been indicted in this case.
Menconi "
has the impression of paying for his past and his name, he has absolutely nothing to do with this affair and he will make sure to demonstrate it
", insisted Me Auzou.
Acquitted on appeal in 2009 for the robbery of a Brink's van at the end of 2000 and in 2006 for a double murder in Corsica in 2001, Joseph Menconi himself escaped in 2003 from the prison of Borgo (Haute-Corse) armed with a fake rocket launcher and was considered close to the Bastia gang of the "
Sea Breeze
".
Menconi, who was detained at the Health prison in Paris, has been free on bail since December 24, according to his lawyer.
He is also implicated in the attempted assassination of Guy Orsoni, son of former nationalist leader Alain Orsoni, in September 2018 and a double assassination at Bastia Poretta airport in December 2017. “
He also disputes the charges in these two cases,
