The Russian prosecutor's office announced today (Tuesday) a criminal investigation against the Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, on suspicion of making personal use of association funds raised from the Russian public.

Allegedly, Navalny and two of his associates spent four and a half million dollars from the association's money on personal needs such as travel abroad and shopping.

Ironically, the organization that Navalny operated was designed to document and spread corruption by members of the ruling elite in Russia and millions of people in the country watch the revelations that Navalny's people regularly reveal.

The opposition man was quick to respond to the accusations against him and wrote on his Twitter page: "Like I said a long time ago, they will try to put me in jail because I did not die from the assassination attempt. Things prove that Putin is personally behind everything.

Navalny is currently in Germany, where he is seeking medical treatment after being poisoned by Russian security services during a flight from Siberia to Moscow.

Navalny survived the poisoning attempt, which included the use of Novichuk military nerve gas, thanks to the resourcefulness of the pilot who insisted on landing the plane immediately and thanks to a paramedic who recognized that the man had been poisoned and injected him with entropy.

Navalny was brought to Berlin in a state of coma but he woke up and began a long process of recovery from the poisoning.

The energetic opposition man has already been interviewed several times and announced that he intends to return to Russia to continue the struggle.

About two weeks ago, the investigative website "Billingket" revealed the names and photos of the agents who followed Nabalani and participated in the assassination attempt.

The exposure caused great embarrassment to the Kremlin and Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the issue in his annual speech to the nation in which he said: "If we wanted to kill the patient from Germany, we would have done so long ago."
