The budget for the drug basket for 2021 will be increased to NIS 550 million, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein and Finance Minister Israel Katz agreed today (Tuesday).

This will be an increase of NIS 50 million compared to the last year.

However, the basket committee that is nearing the end of discussions on next year is expected to issue the final report with a delay, following the corona crisis.

Edelstein welcomed the agreements.

"Increasing the drug basket is extremely important. Despite the high budgets invested in the health system in recent months, I promised upon taking office that every shekel invested in Corona will remain in the health system for the period after," he said.

"As part of that, it was important to me that the budget for the medicine basket be increased. I thank the Minister of Finance for his unconditional support in increasing the budget for the medicine basket."

Katz agreed.

"This is very important news for the public and the health care system," he said.

"The response to the health system, especially in the Corona period, was before my eyes when I also took on this important issue. It is our duty to put the budget in favor of the drugs and treatments needed to save the lives of many citizens who need it. I thank the Minister of Health for working together to find a solution."
