The second model in VW's new range of electric cars is set to go on sale in the first week of the new year.
The sales of the compact SUV ID.4 are planned in Germany and several European countries from the beginning of January, said works council chief
Bernd Osterloh
(64) of the German press agency.
The company had set a date "by the end of the year" for the car, which will continue the fully electric ID series after the ID.3, which started in September.
"It can already be pre-ordered. Internally, for example as a company car, it will be delivered. At the beginning of the year, it will generally be available", announced Osterloh.
"In the first quarter, the ID.4 will gradually reach our retailers and also the first customers, in this country and in other important EU markets."
VW core brand boss
Ralf Brandstätter
(52) had announced that the ID.4 should be on the road with full functionality right from the start.
He also promised "sufficient range and fast charging".
With the predecessor ID.3, customers first had to download a few software updates.
The model family is being expanded with the larger ID.5 and the ID.Buzz electric bus, among other things.
A small car in the Polo segment could also follow later.
Vehicles are of vital importance to the world's largest auto company.
In view of the climate debate, stricter CO2 targets and the change to alternative drives, Volkswagen is pumping huge sums of money into electromobility, digitization and networking.
The ID.3 should achieve mass suitability as the "Golf" of the electric age.
In the long term, more than 70 all-electric models are planned in the group - including at subsidiaries such as Audi, Porsche, Skoda and Seat.
In addition, VW is pursuing plans for a separate "e-volume model" that is to be built in Wolfsburg for various brands from around the middle of the decade.
