With the health crisis, the French began to change their payment habits in the spring: while the country was under cover and the majority of businesses were closed, withdrawals and cash payments fell.
They have been replaced by payment by bank card, considered safer from a health point of view than banknotes and coins, which may be carriers of the Covid-19 virus.

After the deconfinement and while the pandemic was still circulating, consumers continued to abandon cash, but also payment by check.
"The flow of withdrawals and checks remained significantly lower than the pre-crisis situation,"
confirms the Banque de France.
Over the year as a whole, cash payments fell by 34% in France, according to a study carried out by the consulting firm GfK
