Berlin's Senator for Health Dilek Kalayci (SPD) has accused the federal government of being poorly organized in the distribution of the corona vaccine.

There will be no further vaccine for Berlin in the first week of January.

"We have now received the message from the Federal Ministry of Health that the delivery will be canceled without replacement in the first calendar week," said Kalayci of the German press agency.

It should not continue until January 11th.

"That is now causing us great difficulties, as we have made our plans based on these commitments," added the Senator.

Berlin should have received 29,250 more vaccine doses from January 4th.

»We would have needed that to be able to start with the over 80s.

Of course we can't do that now. ”Therefore, starting Wednesday, people over the age of 90 would initially be invited to the vaccinations by letter.

“I have a request to the federal government to organize the delivery in a more stable and quicker manner.

We can't prepare everything here and then get a brake like that, ”Kalayci said.

"I'm pissed off.

The shortage of the vaccine remains a problem for the vaccination start in Germany. "

In the morning Kalayci had complained on the radio about the unclear delivery dates.

“Is the vaccine coming Monday or Sunday?

This is of course extremely important for planning appointments, ”she said.

Also due to the lack of vaccine, the vaccination center in the arena hall in Treptow was closed again on Tuesday just two days after it opened.

"I would like the federal government to offer greater reliability"

Bavaria's State Secretary for Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU)

Bavaria's State Secretary for Health, Klaus Holetschek (CSU), is also pushing for more predictability and reliability from the federal government for deliveries.

If you want to assign appointments in the vaccination centers, you have to know when which vaccine is available and in what quantity, he told the dpa news agency.

"I would like to see greater reliability from the federal government."

Otherwise it is relatively difficult to give information to the people who call and ask the hotlines.

According to Holetschek, there are already more than 8,000 reservations for the vaccination centers in Bavaria.

Spahn asks for patience

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) asked for understanding for the initial difficulties.

Everything will be done to have as much vaccine available for Germany as possible as soon as possible, he said on Wednesday.

According to him, another delivery should be made on the same day.

The next one is planned "around the end of next week," and there will be coordination with the federal states.

Regular deliveries are then planned every week in January, ideally on the same weekday, said Spahn.

The health minister pointed out that it is the first product ever for the manufacturer Biontech.

Everyone would have to deal with the general shortage at the beginning.

One can only ask for patience for this.

Approval of Moderna's vaccine is imminent

A second vaccine could soon be approved.

"As of today - we can expect the approval of another vaccine for next week - from Moderna," announced Spahn.

One is talking to Moderna in order to be able to ensure a delivery quickly.

He also expects the vaccine from the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca to be tested quickly and thoroughly, but in that case it will take a little longer.

AstraZeneca's vaccine had already been approved in the UK on Wednesday.
