Social Citizen Lian marched in Wan Chai on National Day last year, but the coffin used for the parade was destroyed. A 60-year-old casual worker involved in using a long umbrella to "lift" the coffin and was charged with criminal damage. He denied the charge and was tried today (30th).

In his own defense, the casual worker said that he went to Wan Chai to watch the flag raising ceremony that day, and because of the violent sunlight, he held an umbrella. He denied that he had used a long umbrella to "lift up" the coffin. In order to shock the community, he even marched, but he denied it.

The case is concluded and a ruling will be made on January 22 next year.

The defendant Sun Guorong (65) was charged with destroying the prop coffin on Hennessy Road in Wan Chai on October 1 last year.

Zhao Zhichen, a member of the community company responsible for carrying the coffin that day, made a confession. During the parade that day, several people suddenly rushed into the parade and collided with the group. He saw the defendant "lifting" the coffin with a long umbrella. The coffin made him fall to the ground and destroyed it.

However, he admitted that the situation was chaotic at the time and did not see whether the defendant touched the coffin.

The defendant denied using a long umbrella to "flick" the coffin

After the verdict of the case was established, the defendant appeared in court to defend himself. He claimed that he went to Wan Chai to watch the flag-raising ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square that day. He also claimed that he was holding an umbrella due to the violent sunlight. He saw the parade passing by on the way.

Later, he was pushed to the ground by people behind, and then was sprayed with pepper spray by police officers and arrested, but he had no idea what happened at the time.

He also stated that he did not notice anyone hitting the coffin at the time, and he denied that he had used a long umbrella to "tick" the coffin.

The prosecution questioned that there was no public viewing area for the flag-raising ceremony last year, and questioned why he still went to the flag-raising ceremony, but he retorted "I have nothing to do with it."

The prosecution stated that the defendant went to Wan Chai to attack the community and marched on the same day, which he denied.
