Dozens of rare photos taken by a soldier in the German army and recently painted by Yossi Biran reveal a tap from everyday life in the Warsaw ghetto.

In contrast to the hard-hitting photographs that are often seen in pictures from the Holocaust, Biran, an amateur historian, chose to present what happened in the ghetto in the days of repair, as far as can be said about this period, and bring a personal look at the lives of the people there. .

In the 80 photos, taken by Georg Weilli, a Wehrmacht soldier, and donated to the Jewish community before his death, Jews are seen in everyday life, under the Nazi regime.

The great poverty is evident in the streets, among other things in the clothes of the residents and the overcrowding.

Some of those photographed are wearing very worn clothes, without shoes.

Others look particularly thin and it is clear that their lives are not simple.

Viewing pictures in an instructive color and showing a face that is not always visible in the Holocaust.

The photos were posted a few days ago on Byrne's Facebook account and received thousands of comments, likes and shares.

Biran, a 57-year-old resident of Ali, notes that he was excited to see how much the photos touch surfers.

He explains that he set out with the aim of passing on the message to the younger generation.

"It is very difficult to convey such a difficult and complex subject to the younger generation through the old images, in black and white. The younger generation is looking for media, and you can touch on them through color images."

LeBiran, who holds a bachelor's degree in history from Humboldt University in Berlin, has a personal touch on the subject of the Holocaust.

His mother was a non-Jewish resident of Berlin who decided to immigrate to Israel in 1952 and converted to Judaism, partly due to the Nazi actions during the Holocaust.

"She severed ties with her entire family and immigrated to Israel, even though she had no connection to the Jewish people, because she understood what had happened in Germany and did not want contact with that people," he says.

Biran is currently in the IDF and so he decided to embark on the impressive project. He previously carried out a smaller but more shocking project, in which he painted pictures from the day the Jews were deported from the Treblinka ghetto in 1942. He is currently working on a project similar to the one published in the ghetto. Lodge. "I dig through the archives and pull out what fits.

I do not use horror pictures or inappropriate pictures, and focus on everyday.

I want to bring the people as they are, the people themselves. ”The work on the images often takes a long time, as it is necessary to improve their resolution and translate the black and white into colors.

For Byrne, this is a real task, so he is happy that the photos have gained momentum online.

"For me this is my contribution as a Jew. These are not my pictures. All in all I went through the same coloring process. Anyone with a little understanding can do it. For me I want people to look at the pictures and say wow, they will discover the Holocaust in this way. "I did my thing. The pictures for me are of all the people of Israel, of every person who moves on the earth and such things must not happen again."
