Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that Western countries bear responsibility for the crises that the countries of the Middle East are experiencing, pointing out that the terrorist threat to the world is a result of “the geopolitical experiences of the West” in the region.

Lavrov said in a joint press conference today, after his talks with the Foreign Minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord, Muhammad Siala in Moscow, that one of the root causes of the crisis situation in the Middle East and North Africa is "the exacerbation of the huge size inherent in the conflict that is still there as a result of the geopolitical experiences of the West that tried to exploit The so-called Arab Spring is for his benefit.

Lavrov pointed out that Western policies and interventions have led to the spread of terrorism in the countries of the region and undermined the economic foundations of many countries. “The region has retreated for decades in its development and has become incubated in generating a terrorist threat that has spread widely outside its borders and a major migration crisis has emerged,” Lavrov said.

It is noteworthy that a number of Western countries, led by the United States, have supported over the past years, and terrorist organizations are still in Syria through arming, training and financing them, as their forces occupied Syrian lands and imposed coercive economic measures targeting the Syrian people for their livelihood.

With regard to the situation in Syria, Lavrov stressed the importance of the Astana process in reaching a political solution to the crisis in it and said, "In Syria, with the active support of the guarantor countries of the Astana process, the United Nations has managed to establish a stable political process that will continue next month," noting the importance of the coordination role of the United Nations in the political solution Crises in Syria, Yemen and Libya.

In a joint statement, the heads of the guarantor states of the Astana process renewed in a joint statement following a videoconference in early July, to affirm their commitment to the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and integrity of Syria and the continuation of cooperation until the final elimination of terrorism there, stressing their rejection of any separatist plans that violate Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On the other hand, Lavrov considered that the search for a political solution to the Palestinian issue "faces real dangers that predict failure," describing the situation as "extremely dangerous."

Last Friday, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stressed her country's firm position that the Palestinian issue was and still is a central issue for peace in the Middle East and that long-term and sustainable regional stability cannot be achieved without resolving it, while the Russian ambassador to the Israeli occupation entity Anatoly stressed Viktorov that the failure to reach a solution to the Palestinian issue is the biggest factor to destabilize the region.
