Firecrackers allowed, but only from home - the curfew on New Year's Eve should ensure that there is no great party mood.

The police in the district of Ebersberg explain what is allowed where and how they check on New Year's Eve.

District

- New Year's Eve is traditionally a stress test for the police: arguments, fireworks and drunk drivers are the usual New Year's program.

This year, the corona-related curfew and contact restrictions will be added, there are no exceptions for the turn of the year.

For the inspections in Ebersberg and Poing, that means: everyone on deck.

For tactical reasons, the departments do not reveal how many patrols are on patrol at the turn of the year.

But more than on other nights, and the emergency train from Erding will also be on its way.

"We are well positioned," say the Poingen inspection manager Helmut Hintereder and the deputy chief of police in Ebersberg, Andreas Petermeier.

Firecrackers are allowed at home, but the police strongly advise against them

But that doesn't mean that the officers will chase after every New Year's rocket with flashing lights and taxi commands.

"A sense of proportion is required," says Petermeier.

In any case, there is no general decree that would prohibit firecrackers in the Ebersberg district, adds his colleague from Poingen.

Unlike, for example, in the neighboring district of Erding, where private firecrackers are prohibited.

So if you still have residual fireworks in the basement, you can burn them down - but you should be at home on your own balcony or property so as not to violate the curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

According to the police headquarters, the garden or driveways are also included in the property.

Toasting with the neighbors is not allowed, only toasting from a distance.

In order not to put additional strain on the hospitals, the authorities urgently advise against handling fireworks, as this repeatedly leads to serious injuries on New Year's Eve.

Anyone caught outside has to pay 500 euros

The curfew gives the police officers a clear handle, the main focus of the controls will be on it, say both police stations.

Even if it's New Year's Eve: Anyone found outside their home at night must have a valid reason, regardless of whether they are on foot, by car or by bike.

Otherwise a complaint follows, the fine is 500 euros.

His stripes will specifically observe the “usual meeting places”, says Hintereder from Poingen;

i.e. marketplaces and comparable areas.

No New Year's special rule for contact restrictions

The second component of the anti-corona measures that should play a role on New Year's Eve are the contact restrictions: A maximum of five people from no more than two households may celebrate together, not including children under 14 who are part of these households.

"We will not enter any properties without a specific reason," announced Ebersberg's police deputy Petermeier.

But if there is a well-founded suspicion of violations, the police officers on site would check whether to intervene.

“Proportionality is important,” says Petermeier.

And Poing's police chief Hintereder emphasized: “We're not looking.” However, clues are being followed up, the officials say in unison.

Overall, both police officers say, citizens adhered to the contact and exit restrictions.

In the past few weeks there have only been individual violations.

But New Year's Eve isn't a night like any other.

“We don't know exactly what to expect,” says Petermeier from Ebersberg.

The situation was also unprecedented for the police in the Ebersberg district.

Private celebrations, alcohol, ecstasy about a pandemic year 2020 that is finally over: his colleague Hintereder from Poing says: "I fear that there will be more going on than usual."
