The president of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, indicated this Wednesday that this Thursday at dawn the second shipment of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines against covid-19 will arrive in the country, with 11,700 doses.
The president said that this will allow them to extend the vaccination process to other regions of the country.
Piñera also said that in January 2021 they will continue to systematically receive this vaccine from Pfizer and, in addition, they will receive for the first time the vaccine from the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac.
"Our plan is that, during the first quarter, that is, January, February and March, we can vaccinate five million people, corresponding to the people most at risk," said the Chilean president during an event to announce a special bonus for medical personnel.
Piñera added that vaccines from AztraZeneca and the University of Oxford will arrive in April 2021, in addition to others that they have committed through the Covax global initiative, and he trusted that this will allow the government to vaccinate 15 million people.
So far, according to the Ministry of Health, Chile has vaccinated 8,649 workers in the country's public and private health systems.
