The president of Colombia, Iván Duque, announced this Wednesday that the country signed an agreement with Janssen, the pharmaceutical division of Johnson & Johnson, for the acquisition of 9 million vaccines against covid-19.
"Today the agreement has been signed for the acquisition of 9 million vaccines for 9 million citizens," said Duque from Cartagena.
Janssen's vaccine, unlike others, is being investigated to be a single dose.
"This agreement also allows us to reach about 29 million Colombians and we will also be closing agreements in the next few days that will allow us to tell 35 million Colombians that they will be vaccinated, that we will be there with free vaccines," added the president.
Colombia had already announced the signing of agreements to obtain 40 million vaccines that would be applied in two doses to 20 million people.
As of Wednesday, Colombia registers a total of 1,626,461 cases of covid-19 and close to 43,000 deaths.
