An Erdinger pensioner almost got cheated on.
However, a bank employee noticed the scam and alerted the police.
Erding -
An Erdinger pensioner owes it to an attentive counter employee of her house bank that she did not fall victim to fraud on Tuesday.
Otherwise the 84-year-old would have been cheated for a five-digit amount.
This was announced by the Upper Bavaria North Police Headquarters yesterday.
The scam used by the fraudsters, who pretended to be police officers, was bold: They called the elderly woman and told her that her niece had caused a serious traffic accident in Belgium and was now imprisoned there.
In order to have the relatives released, the 84-year-old had to transfer a five-digit amount of money in two batches to a Belgian account.
The pensioner immediately went to her bank to transfer the money.
However, the bank clerk noticed that it was fraudulent practice and immediately informed the police.
While she was still in the bank branch, officers from the police station and Kripo Erding informed the elderly about the fraud.
The 84-year-old was very grateful for the caring behavior of the bank employees and the real police officers.
In November, the police headquarters launched a “call center fraud” prevention campaign.
It includes tips on what to do and a sticker with the slogan “LAY UP!” To be placed near the phone.
