Despite the Corona crisis: The Bad Wiessee community has tackled many upcoming topics and projects.

This pace should continue in 2021.

Bad Wiessee

- Despite the Corona crisis: The Bad Wiessee community picked up the momentum after the local elections in March and tackled many upcoming topics and projects.

The biggest one was probably the decision to build a new bathing park.

If Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD) has his way, things will continue at the same pace in 2021.

Something should finally change as far as the abandoned SME construction site is concerned.

Kühn makes it clear: The community wants to open a new chapter here - with a new partner.

The SME construction site

The machines on the site of the former iodine sulfur bath have been idle since spring 2019.

The construction site - prominently located across from the new iodine sulfur bath - is a bleak sight.

Mayor Kühn (38) makes it unmistakably clear that the community is sticking to the valid development plan.

Means: At this point nothing other than a hotel and health location comes into question.

“We are of the opinion that this would be a sustainable project,” says Kühn.

However, the city hall boss no longer believes that it can be implemented with the previous investor, the Sports Medicine Excellence Group (SME) from Switzerland.

“We want to open a new chapter,” explains the town hall boss.

And: there are enough interested investors for such a project.

Demolition of the swimming pool

The greatest attention in Bad Wiessee is currently the bathing park.

In a referendum in September, the Wiesseers voted in favor of a new building costing 30 million euros.

"We want to start demolishing next year - the money for this has been set in the 2021 budget," reports Kühn.

At the same time, the community will speak to the various funding agencies (“we don't want to do anything wrong”) and try to reach a deficit agreement with the other four valley communities - only then could the planning for the new spa begin.

As far as the financial participation of the neighboring communities is concerned, one is on the "very, very good path", says Kühn.

New construction of a daycare center

The top priority - as all those involved had already emphasized during the election campaign - in Bad Wiessee is the construction of a new kindergarten and crèche.

Because the old Maria Himmelfahrt kindergarten is ailing and the crib has long been too small, two new structures are to be built in one go on the community-owned area of the primary school.

48 crèche places and up to 100 kindergarten places would then be available.

An office for the Europe-wide invitation to tender for the 9.4 million euro project has already been commissioned, the mayor announced, and named a target: the first groundbreaking should take place at the end of the current school year.

"Then we have a clear cut."

Strüngmann Hotel

The city council paved the way for another major project last year: The development plan for the Strüngmann family's new hotel building on the lakeshore was signed in spring.

“We have done our homework,” emphasizes the mayor.

Since then, however, the project has become quiet.

When asked, Stephan Heller, spokesman for Strüngmann's company Athos, admits: "Corona has slowed down work considerably." However, nothing has changed in the basic plans for the five-star-plus hotel with 90 rooms.

"We plan and fine-tune the hotel concept in detail," reports Heller.

However, due to the difficult corona situation, it is currently not possible to say when the specific building application will be submitted.

Other projects

Regardless of the planned new hotel building, the community finally wants to tackle the long-awaited beautification of its lake promenade.

"We will be tackling the pergola next year," promises Kühn.

The dilapidated wooden pergola is to be redesigned along with the wraparound.

"We have talked long enough here, now we want to show that this is important to us," says the town hall boss on the subject of the lake promenade.

The municipality also gives high priority to the upgrading of the water guard barn.

"A lot of money" will be taken for this, the mayor announced.

One thing that is worth it: "We want a modern water watch."

In addition to these specific construction projects, the community is very keen to get the new iodine-sulfur bath opened in 2020 on track.

With Helmut Karg, a new managing director has been hired who - if necessary - is to readjust the quality and offer.

Kühn is convinced that the course has been set for a good future.

The change of year

is an opportunity to take stock and look ahead.

What was possible despite the corona pandemic, what is being made up, what is being tackled?

We asked around in the town halls.
