Only a moment of 'detachment' at the stroke of midnight to welcome 2021, but otherwise it was a normal night of work in a Covid ward for Lucio Patoia, head of Medicine at the "San Giovanni Battista" hospital in Foligno and responsible of the facility dedicated to coronavirus patients.
Which led him once again to touch the loneliness of the virus sufferers.
Patoia has decided to take turns to let the colleagues he coordinates catch his breath.
"It seemed normal to me to do so - he explains to ANSA as soon as he left the hospital - after so many months of hard work, it didn't seem right that some of them had to work both at Christmas and New Year".
The last hospitalization, which led to 15 patients currently present in the Covid ward of Foligno, "once again touched one of the worst aspects of the disease, loneliness", says the doctor, explaining that a elderly person who, although not in serious condition, has "accused above all the discomfort of finding herself alone in what is happening to her".
