Residents of Umm al-Fahm and politicians in the Arab sector today (Friday) accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of "trying to cut a political coupon," after arriving this morning with Health Minister Yuli Edelstein at the city's vaccination compound to congratulate the millionth vaccinator.

During their visit, dozens of demonstrators gathered in front of the compound and protested against the visit.

"The feeling is extremely negative," said Mahmoud Adiv Agbaria, chairman of the Umm al-Fahm People's Committee, which is one of the protesters. In general, and the residents of Umm al-Fahm in particular.

To our surprise all of a sudden he came.

Protesters protest Netanyahu's visit to Umm al-Fahm today

He dismissed the prime minister's wink at the Arab public.

"We have not yet forgotten his statements and his policies that make the city's residents still suffer," he said.

"We still think he sees us, the Arab citizens of Israel, as enemies, and that is how he behaves. So one such is his policy - we should make our voice heard against him and his government."

Yosef Agbaria, a building contractor and social activist in the city, noted that the residents do not need Netanyahu to understand the importance of vaccines, and that he expects him to deal with the burning problems in Arab society, including crime and violence.

"I'm going to get vaccinated and I don't need Netanyahu to come and tell me to get vaccinated," he said.

"I need him to understand that two meters from where he stood two days ago, a 20-year-old man was killed in a car accident. An only son. Why? Because there is no infrastructure. That's what we need from Netanyahu. He needs to understand that we have suffered twenty years since he came to power. What did he do? "For us twenty years? There are no budgets, crime is rampant and racism is at its peak. There is no development in localities. There is no construction. I have personally demolished four houses on my private land."

"I'm not excited and nothing. Just a group that came to do a tour," added city resident Adv. Ahmad Khalifa, "It is absurd that in all Arab society there are four or five vaccination centers and more are coming to make political capital for it.

It is sad to see this man sneak into our city without prior notice and without the public knowing to accept him as Umm al-Fahm knows how to accept racists from landowners like him. "

On the other hand, the mayor of Umm al-Fahm, Dr. Samir Mahamid, congratulated him on his resilience. The millionth citizen opposed the virus, and addressed Netanyahu in less aggressive language.

"I have two requests," he said.

"Engage in violence in Arab society on a daily basis, as people shout to heaven, as well as take care of the urban infrastructure. I ask for spot treatment in the city. Only yesterday a guy close to here was killed because of infrastructure."

Opponents of the city were also joined by Arab MKs who criticized.

"Even in Umm al-Fahm, like all Arab society, Netanyahu is neither a guest nor an unwanted person," said MK Sami Abu Shehadeh (Balad - the joint list).

"His need to infiltrate like a thief and get out of town the same way says it all."

MK Yosef Jabarin (Hadash - the joint list) also joined in: "Once he frightened the public that we are 'flocking to the polls'. Now 'flocking to vaccines' is Netanyahu's new election propaganda."

During the incident, Netanyahu addressed the need to tighten restrictions and turned to the Arab sector to encourage immunization.

"It is important to me that the Arab public be vaccinated quickly," he said.

"This is saving lives. Once we reach a critical mass of vaccinators, we can open trade, shops, restaurants, do business and travel in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain. All this is possible," Netanyahu said, referring to the fight against violence in the sector.

"I know you have a lot of challenges in the Arab public. The most important thing is crime. We opened eight police stations and opened another eight, but here we are talking about saving a real life."
