More than 2,500 people attended an illegal New Year's party in the Brittany region of France, despite restrictions.

More than 2,500 people attended an illegal New Years party in the Brittany region of France.

This, despite strict government restrictions against coronavirus and a nationwide overnight curfew.

"In the early evening hours of December 31, several hundred vehicles began to congregate in an industrial area in the city of Lieuron to organize an electronic party," local authorities in France said on Friday.

According to a statement, the local police tried to call off the party, but "faced violent hostility."

Three other vehicles were damaged and soldiers attacked them with bottles and stones.

Local authorities say that the number of those attending the party "is estimated at 2,500, coming from different French departments and abroad."
