At about 1 am on Saturday (January 2), the police received a report that a large number of private cars were driving at high speed along the Aberdeen Tunnel towards Aberdeen, suspected of illegal racing.
The Hong Kong Island Traffic Task Force immediately deployed and intercepted 15 vehicles on Wong Chuk Hang Road near Nanfeng Road.
According to the news, one of the vehicles speeded up and escaped, suspected of attempting to hit the police. The police officer verbally warned to no avail. He drew his gun for alert, and then launched a pursuit.
It was about 4 kilometers away at the junction of Stubbs Road and Queen's Road East, where he was eventually intercepted.
After the incident, the police arrested 17 men (aged 19 to 39), including 15 drivers and 2 passengers, who were suspected of being replenished for "illegal racing." The driver and passengers in the same car were also involved in "dangerous driving". When arrested, it is reported that some of the arrested persons were once upset.
All vehicles were also suspected of being illegally modified, in violation of the Road Traffic (Vehicle Construction and Maintenance) Regulations, and were towed away for further inspection.
At the scene, the intercepted private cars included Nissan Silvia, commonly known as "Flying Chicken", "Broom Guy", Audi Quattro, Heiji AMG, Honda Type R and Honda Civic.
