The first measures have been implemented, this year the adventure park of the Bund Naturschutz is to be opened in Wartaweil. “But on a small scale,” says Birgit Geurden. Since last June, she has been sharing the management of the educational facility on Lake Ammersee with Axel Schreiner. The anticipation in the nature conservation and youth center is restrained, because not all plans have been implemented yet. Because even if boards invite visitors to enter the facility from early summer, the project is far from over.

Wartaweil -

The Bund Naturschutz has been planning to turn its 40,000 square meter area around Villa Habersack in Wartaweil into a place of experience since 2015.

Financially made possible by an inheritance.

The uniqueness of the property should not be changed, but it should be accessible like a park, which it actually was.

“We have never expelled people from the site,” Schreiner said at the time, and wished for more visitors.

The redesign is like an invitation.

Because further outbuildings were to be built and buildings to be renovated in this context, a change in the existing development plan had become necessary.

This administrative act alone took time.

As a result, the former Fraunhofer Institute has been brought up to date in terms of energy and ecology since 2018 (we reported).

The construction trailer that is at the barbecue area also required a permit.

Finally, the outdoor facilities of the newly designed seminar house were fine-tuned.

For example, a sandarium for wild bees and corresponding plants in the area was created.

To the lake side, it goes down the slope in terraces.

Another access has already been made at the northern end of the park.

A cordon is still fluttering in the wind there, but this entrance to the property will soon be released.

An area has also been marked out for a so-called green classroom.

After Corona there should be space for 30 people on step benches.

A toilet facility was also planned, and those responsible put a lot of thought into its implementation.

In order to avoid the complex construction of a water pipe, they opted for two composting toilets, which Birgit Geurden is very enthusiastic about.

"It even smells good in it," she says with a laugh and explains why.

The outhouse is filled with sawdust after use and practically cleans itself.

Regular emptying is still necessary.

Since everything is made of wood - including the toilet seat - it is much more pleasant to use than a Dixieklo, says Birgit Geurden and grins.

She also likes the Plexiglas roofs: "If you sit there in the evening, you can see the starry sky." They are only currently closed - due to Corona.

The team in Wartaweil first rented the toilets and tested them for a year, then found them to be good and bought them.

What is still missing is a sink.

This comes on the outside wall of the guest house that's nearby.

In this way, no major management work is necessary.

Other things, however, are still on hold: noise protection wall, viewing platform, wooden plank circular path around the biotope that closes off the park in the north or the forest adventure trail, for example.

The noise protection wall - planned at a distance of one meter from the cycle path up to 2.50 meters high along the state road - was a thorn in the side of the Herrsching councilors when they submitted their application.

Only after an on-site meeting and the certainty that the distance to the bike path would be maintained, they had approved the planning.

The cycle path is currently not easy to see from the exit in the south.

“We have to change that next,” says Birgit Geurden, who lives in Herrsching and takes her bike to her place of work every day.

The noise barrier, however, still has to wait.

As nature conservationists, you would not build a wall, but a "green fence".

“But that costs a lot of money,” says Birgit Geurden.

Therefore we are looking forward to the partial opening in spring.
