The Interior Minister of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, Roger Levens, described the US Senate's suspension of outgoing President Donald Trump's veto against the defense budget as "a very positive sign at the start of the new year."
The German news agency "DPA" quoted Yevantes as saying that this positivity will apply in particular to residents of the German Eiffel region and many job holders in the state, pointing out that for the first time during Trump's term, the US Senate is challenging the president's veto on the defense budget.
Yesterday, after the House of Representatives, the Senate revoked Trump's veto, allowing billions of dollars to be allocated to the defense budget, despite the president's objection.
Trump's plan to withdraw US troops from Germany would have severely affected workers at the Spangalim base in the Eifel region and the economy of the Rhineland-Palatinate state, where about 700 Germans work.
