This is a new apartment in the TMA project (evacuation construction) in Givatayim, built on ruins The building where the family lived in a tiny apartment before it was demolished.

The couple, in their 50s, are cultural and spiritual people with fine taste and have three children who all live with them in the house today (aged 16, 21 and 25).

The budget and materials are predefined (Photo: Gideon Levin, Studio 181 degrees)

During construction, the family members rented a building nearby and the designer Hadas Brown-Sdot arrived at a relatively advanced stage of construction work, so the project was managed on tight schedules.

"We worked with a pre-defined budget, the combination of materials in the apartment was pre-defined and most of it was based on natural materials," she recalls.

The entire apartment is paved with oak parquet for the lighting, black fixtures were chosen (with one unusual in the dining area), and carpentry items are made of birch and oak veneer and some incorporated shades like matte warm white or sage green, which produce a warm and homely and clean modern scent.

The original design of the apartment was 4 rooms but one of the tenants' requests was to convert it to a 5 room apartment, in a design that would leave an option in the future to cancel one bedroom located near the entrance to the apartment, in favor of increasing public space.

"The public space is not large in terms of the area, so it was designed with great care," says Brown-Sdot.

"The challenge was to maximize storage spaces where possible, but at the same time maintain a sense of space, with the help of a clean and relaxed, uncluttered, meticulous and warm design."

From the entrance to the apartment you can see lighted furniture hidden inside a wall in front of the dining area, this is a display cabinet that contains thousands of PEZ dolls, a rare collection that the couple has collected over the years and is very proud of.

"The idea was to design the furniture that would look like a framed picture in which the 'Paz' dolls create the colorful painting," explains the designer.

The cabinet is made of grained black metal, to match the design line of the light fixtures hung in the house.

In the kitchen area, which is an important and central axis in the apartment, there is a round dining area that is easy and convenient to open for a large number of diners with high frequency.

"This is a very socially active family that invites and hosts a lot. That's why I designed a functional kitchen for them in a clean line with plenty of storage spaces whose facades are painted in a sage green color," says Brown-Sdot.

The landlady received a wide free standing oven - which was one of her wishes from the very beginning of the planning process.

Above the dining area hung a lampshade dangling from the ceiling made of amorphous-organic maple veneer.

According to the designer, it adds softness to the space and sets the corner.

The TV wall in the living room was designed by CUSTOME MADE in an oak veneer finish and a warm white color and was designed especially for the various music accessories: the owner of the apartment used to have a huge collection of records that burned as a young man on the kibbutz.

From then until today he dreamed of going back to the days of the turntable and enjoying the unique vinyl sound of the old records.

The media furniture is designed so that it does not touch the floor in order to create a feeling of airiness (Photo: Gideon Levin, Studio 181 degrees)

"The media furniture is a FOCAL POINT for everything. In order to use the wall for as much storage as possible, I chose to design tall furniture and yet, in order to create a feeling of airiness in the space, it floats and does not touch the floor," explains the designer.

In the hallway leading to the bedrooms a high storage unit has been designed integrated in a small work area, with a cork board and a perforated board made of birch wood with shelves.

This is to break the feeling of the hallway and create a kind of pleasant, functional and cool corner.

The 2 bathrooms in the apartment are not very large, so the designer kept a bright, white and clean line that emphasizes the feeling of space and leaves it bright and airy.

"In order to create warmth, I combined Kent from Birch. In doing so, I charmed the spaces by storing solutions in narrow cabinets combined with mirrors, which also create the illusion of space."
