In November there were seven new ones in Neubiberg, three in Putzbrunn, and in December five were added in Oberhaching, three in Haar and one more in Sauerlach - the news about new locations with charging stations for electric cars is becoming more and more frequent.

After the district of Munich decided on an electromobility concept in autumn 2018 to initiate the turnaround in traffic, the expansion of the charging infrastructure was initially slow.

Now things seem to be gaining momentum.

District

- In total there are now 105 charging points set up in cooperation with the district at 41 locations in eleven municipalities.

The proportion of electric vehicles has also increased: As of September 30th, 2298 purely electric vehicles of the vehicle type passenger car were registered.

In spring it was still 1770. In addition, there are 8,722 vehicles with hybrid drive, i.e. with a combined drive from normal fuel and electrical energy source.

In May there were still 5952 hybrid vehicles.

Nevertheless, the proportion of electric vehicles is still very low in the total of 239 595 cars registered in the district.

In cooperation with the administrative district in Brunnthal, six charging points at three locations went into operation until December, four charging points at two locations in Grasbrunn, two charging points at one location in Grünwald, eight charging points at four locations in Hohenbrunn, 14 charging points at seven locations in Neubiberg, in Oberhaching ten charging points at five locations, in Pullach two charging points at one location, in Putzbrunn six charging points at three locations, in Taufkirchen two charging points at one location, in Unterföhring 25 charging points at four locations and in Unterschleißheim 36 charging points at ten locations.

190 more charging points planned in the district

And that shouldn't stop there.

In the next few months, up to 190 charging points are planned at more than 79 locations in 18 municipalities.

While some municipalities were initially skeptical, according to the district office they have now all agreed to set up or promote charging facilities themselves.

18 municipalities are planning a collaboration with the operator of the district's charging infrastructure concept, Wirelane, and seven other municipalities are already working with other providers.

In another four municipalities, the decision on the providers is still pending.

More info

All information about electromobility in the district is available on the Internet at www.landkreis-muenchen.de/themen/mobilitaet/elektromobilitaet/.

There is also a list of the municipalities that offer funding for electromobility.

Federal and state funding opportunities are also listed.

To charge your car at the district stations, you need the “Wirelane” app or a charging card.

Alternatively, a QR code can also be scanned.

If you want to use the app or charge card, you need an account.

Charging is also possible without registration using QR codes.

Not only the public sector is building the charging network.

According to estimates by the district office, there are now more than 300 charging points at more than 120 locations, such as supermarkets or companies.

260 points are freely accessible 24 hours a day.

Fast charging, i.e. charging with over 22 kW, is also possible at 32 charging points.

The payment system is being refined

The payment system is being refined further: With the operator Wirelane, there is currently the option of charging using a charging card, app or smartphone.

According to the District Office, payments with EC cards, credit cards and various online payment service providers will also be available at the beginning of next year.

You can also roam at the charging stations using standard charging cards from other providers.

"The district is very satisfied with the development of the charging infrastructure," says Daniel Hendrichs-Leupolz, responsible for electromobility in the Munich district office.

“However, the efforts must continue and the constant expansion in the municipalities must be promoted in the coming years in order to keep pace with the general development.” Added to this is the establishment of further providers, which has also increased.
