Rural Damascus - SANA

Hassan Ghanima Abu Mari is not the only one who was able to develop and expand his agricultural project by increasing the number of heads of cows and sheep and cultivating all the agricultural areas that he owns. Rather, there are many farmers in the town of Shifouniya in the Douma region of Damascus countryside who worked after its liberation from terrorism, despite all circumstances, to fully invest and cultivate their lands. With various types of summer and winter crops, what contributed to improving their living conditions and securing some of the local market's needs of agricultural and animal products.

In his agricultural project, Abu Mari assured to the SANA delegate that he was keen to put all members of his family into agricultural work, which he inherited from a father from the grandfather of the fact that the land is the main source of livelihood and one of the most important sectors for the advancement of the country's economy that is facing the most horrific types of wars and pressures to break it.

Abu Marei's love for the land made him succeed, develop and excel in agricultural work. His grandfather and patience managed to cultivate 40 dunums of various types of summer and winter vegetables, especially wheat and animal fodder such as alfalfa and others in addition to olives and said that he “managed to increase the number of heads of cows that he currently owns and he has about” 60 heads Of the cows, among them are 20 dairy cows, indicating that, in parallel, he works on fattening the calves for their meat and raising the firstborn in order to produce milk that reaches about 200 kilograms daily, which is marketed in Damascus until its vegetable production is marketed through the cardamom market traders.

Abu Maree stressed that this project has achieved great benefits and moral value before materialism, calling on the concerned authorities to help farmers in the village to return to their lands and cultivate them, secure their needs of diesel, fertilizer and wheat seeds, and improve the electricity situation, as it saves a lot for farmers.

Eid Hassan Ghanima, one of the sons of Abu Mari, who was brought up in agricultural work, confirmed for his part that the land for him is the show and the soul, and he works on it from an early age. He raises livestock and produces milk, and through follow-up, he managed with his family to establish a plant and animal production project that helped them improve their standard of living and empower them From marketing the surplus of their production, stressing that he will continue to work on the land no matter how difficult it is, and will not leave it, and he will also raise his children to love the land and work on it.

The farmer, Tawfiq Qadish, has been working in agriculture for 25 years. He has 5 dunums planted with various agricultural varieties such as parsley, onions, coriander, cabbage, flower and others. He said that “his production is marketed in the cardamom market, but he pointed out that the prices of the products are not sufficient for the purpose and do not cover the high production costs of raw materials, fertilizers, diesel and other things because Market dealers buy livelihood at low prices, so the farmer must be supported and secure his needs of diesel, fertilizers and other materials at reasonable prices away from the monopoly so that he can continue and develop the work.

The Multicultural Association in Douma is working hard in coordination with the Directorate of Agriculture in Damascus Countryside and the Peasants Union to secure part of the needs and requirements of farmers, according to Yassin Saleh, head of the association, who assured the delegate of SANA that the agricultural sector in Douma is very large and large and needs a lot of support, revealing that the total wooded areas Up to 3500 dunums, most of which have been damaged, and work is underway to restore these areas through afforestation with various types of plants.
