To avoid a rebound in the Covid-19 pandemic on its territory, Norway, where the Covid-19 contamination rate is one of the lowest in Europe, announced new restrictions on Sunday.

A ban on the serving of alcohol in bars and restaurants (which remain open), a restriction to five people for private indoor events and 10 for public events, and closure of universities are among the measures detailed by Prime Minister Erna Solberg, valid until January 18.

”she said, calling on her compatriots to“
put their social life on hold for two weeks
”.
This decision comes after the discovery of five cases of Covid-19 linked to the new variant of the coronavirus which appeared in the United Kingdom and presented by the British government as more contagious.
As of December 30, the country of 5 million inhabitants recorded 48,278 cases of Covid-19 and 436 deaths.
In mid-December, Norway announced the extension until the second half of January of its health restrictions to avoid a rebound in the epidemic.
Oslo recommends voluntary confinement by inviting its population to stay at home and limit social contact, and imposes a seven-day quarantine - with two negative tests - on people arriving from abroad.
Local restrictions have also been put in place in places where the epidemic is most virulent.
In the capital, for example, sports halls, cinemas and theaters in particular are closed, and wearing a mask is compulsory in closed public spaces.
