Chile takes measures against the new variant of covid-19 1:41
(CNN Spanish) -
As of this Thursday, all Chilean and foreign residents who enter the country must have a negative PCR test, carried out up to 72 hours before traveling.
At a press conference, Health Minister Enrique Paris explained on Monday that the measure was due to the detection of a second case of covid-19 with the United Kingdom variant.
It is about a person who entered Santiago from Madrid on December 22.
He has no symptoms or a history of risk, although he was hospitalized preventively, Paris said.

"Resident Chileans and resident foreigners were not required to carry out a prior PCR, so this is one more tool, one more fence that must be met before traveling to Chile," he said.
Upon arrival in the country, travelers must comply with mandatory quarantine for 10 days, which can end on the seventh day with a negative result by PCR performed in the country.

The Ministry of Health of Chile confirmed this Monday 620,641 cases of coronavirus and 16,767 deaths.
Like Chile, Colombia announced this Monday that it will "request the PCR test with a negative result" from travelers entering Colombia.
According to the Deputy Minister of Health, Luis Alexander Moscoso, "those who arrive in the country without it, will be able to practice it and be isolated until they know the result, which must be negative to resume activities."
