The day after New Year's Eve, around 6 a.m., a resident of Corbeil-Essonnes, in Essonne, was awakened by the panicked cries of his three children, aged between 9 and 11 years old.

The father immediately goes up to the third floor of his home, where the bedroom of two of his daughters is.

The Linky meter, hanging on the wall of her binoculars chamber, appears to be about to explode.

When I entered the room, there were sparks coming out of the meter

", he tells the

The family barely has time to get out of the house when a loud explosion sounds and smashes the double-glazed windows.

Their home is completely destroyed by the flames.

The firefighters come to the end of the fire after four hours of intervention.

The father bought this house in 2014 and repeatedly refused the installation of the Linky meter, which is supposed to provide the home's electricity consumption in real time.

I had to refuse five times, there were installers who came to ring the bell.

Each time, I said no,

But Enedis is becoming more and more insistent, and the family ends up accepting in the face of letters from the electricity manager which mentions the so-called “

energy transition

” law, requiring Enedis to replace ordinary meters by Linky meters.

Thinking to respect the law, the father therefore accepted the installation of a Linky meter.

Very criticized by the French, the Linky smart box is far from winning unanimous support among the population.

The anti-Linky point the finger at the violation of personal data and the risk of fires.

Just a few months ago, last November, in Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux in the Drôme, a Linky meter had already set alight.

By 2021, Enedis plans to replace 90% of the 35 million electricity meters for Linky meters, applying a legal obligation.
