UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a national lockdown for England on Monday night, following a warning from top medical advisers that the country's National Health Service was in danger of being overwhelmed. for coronavirus cases in 21 days.
"Clearly we have to do more to control this new variant," Johnson said.
