The willingness to help increases in times of crisis.

This can be seen in the blood donation statistics in Holzkirchen.

There is an innovation for the first appointment in 2021.

Holzkirchen

- Long queues are annoying at all times, but even dangerous in a pandemic.

The blood donation service of the BRK is therefore organizing the next appointment in Holzkirchen via online reservations.

Anyone who wants to donate blood at the Holzkirchen Middle School on Friday, January 8th, can secure a personal date of choice between 3 and 8 p.m. via the Internet.

The "Appointment Reservation System" (TRS) has already proven itself in other places, and it is being rolled out for the first time in the Miesbach district.

"We are more or less serving as a pilot project for the region," says Markus Probst, head of the Holzkirchen BRK readiness.

It is no coincidence that the choice fell on Holzkirchen.

"We had an impressive increase in the number of donors in 2020," says Probst.

An average of 210 donors came on each of the five appointments;

most recently there were even more than 230 people who were bled by BRK doctors in middle school.

"Compared to previous years that is an increase of 25 percent," says Probst happily, "the support from the population is phenomenal."

According to BRK statistics, 80 percent of the donors come directly from Holzkirchen, the rest from Otterfing, Valley and Warngau.

"We are particularly pleased about the large number of first-time donors," says the BRK standby manager.

For him, this is a clear indication that, especially in times of crisis, people are willing to “do something good for society”.

Those responsible for the BRK were surprised that so many young citizens willingly rolled up their sleeves.

"Our average this year is 39 years, across Bavaria it was 43 years."

A lot of thought was given to the hygiene concept for the blood donation station in the middle school, emphasizes Probst.

“It helps us a lot that we have plenty of space in the middle school - and the support of the market community.” Ten volunteers take care of the organization in addition to the medical staff from the BRK blood donation service.

"In terms of corona technology, we are as few as humanly possible," says the on-call manager.

The TRS appointments are now also intended to shorten donors' dwell and waiting times.

"A donor doesn't have to bring much more than 30 minutes", promises Probst.

Twelve loungers are activated for reservation every 15 minutes.

This means that 240 “slots” are available for registration.

As a precaution, more loungers are being set up so that we can tap into donors who drop by without an appointment.

“The goal is for everyone to make an appointment online,” says Probst.

The plan is to use the TRS system for all six blood donation appointments scheduled for 2021.

And even after Corona, the online reservations should help to shorten waiting times - and thus reduce the hurdle of going to donate blood again.
