On Sunday evening,
Catalonia reported
1483 new infections within 24 hours, by far the highest absolute value of all Spanish regions.
At the same time, there was a spectacular police operation when hundreds broke up an illegal and multi-day rave party on a deserted site with more than 200 participants.
In Spain, according to surveys by
Johns Hopkins University
(as of January 4, 7:30 p.m.), more than 50,800 people have died in connection with the insidious lung disease.
The vaccination campaign, on the other hand, was slow to start as elsewhere.
So far, only 18 percent of the vaccine doses received have been administered, reported the TV station
RTVE
on Monday, citing the authorities.
Now the hometowns of around
7.6 million people in southeastern Spain are being
cordoned off.
