Benyahu Yehuda, an 18-year-old resident of Jerusalem, is accused of trying to attack Palestinians in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of the capital last Tuesday and causing damage to property, as part of a protest over the death of his beloved son Ahukah Godfather, who was killed during a police chase.

Yehuda was arrested that night and charged with a series of racist motive offenses including attempted assault, attempted assault, intentional sabotage of a vehicle and malicious damage.

The prosecution asked yesterday (Sunday) to detain him until the end of the proceedings against him.

According to the indictment, Yehuda demonstrated in the Bar Ilan area last week, and then walked with other demonstrators towards the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, and they threw stones at vehicles parked at the entrance to the HMO in the neighborhood as well as at the HMO building.

"The stones thrown by the defendant and the others at the HMO and the vehicles were large and were thrown with momentum and short range, in order to cause maximum damage to the rabbi and the HMO structure, all because they were used by residents of Arab descent," the indictment said.

The indictment further states that Judah and others collected pieces of wood and other objects placed on the road in order to detain passing vehicles and check if they were Arabs.

They made one of the passengers stop, and began talking to him to find out his whereabouts.

"Immediately afterwards, the van began a slow ride in which, due to the Arab origin of the truck driver, the defendant threw a stone at the van from a short distance which hit his window," the indictment alleges.

The driver fled, then another passenger vehicle arrived which was stopped due to the barrier they had placed.

According to the indictment, Yehuda - along with 20 other people whose identities are unknown - gathered next to him and asked if he was an Arab.

"When he answered in the affirmative, they cursed him and started hitting the vehicle. Some of those present kicked different parts of the vehicle, and the defendant and another whose identity is not known to the accused threw a large stone at the vehicle at close range, all due to the driver's Arab origin and intent to injure him." .
