The areas planted with food legume crops in the lands under the supervision of the work of the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forests since the beginning of the cultivation operations until the date reached 727 hectares of the total planned plan amounting to 2800 hectares.

The Director of Plant Wealth at the Authority, Eng. Wafiq Zarrouf, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent today that 235 hectares of chickpea crops, 327 hectares of beans and 165 hectares of peas were planted, indicating that the cultivation operations in the Al-Ghab region usually continue until next February, noting that all production requirements are available.

The places where legumes are cultivated are concentrated in the areas of Al-Ghab, Jeb Ramla, Salhab, Shatah and Ain Al Kroum.

In the As-Suwayda governorate, the areas cultivated with the lentil crop since the start of its cultivation a few days ago until its date reached 1240 dunums, with an implementation rate of 14 percent of the plan amounting to 8,600 dunams.

The assistant director of agriculture in Suwayda, Eng. Alaa Shuhayb, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent today that the cultivated areas so far are good, especially with the continued cultivation of lentils, which are mostly rain-fed and depend on rain water, indicating that the crop cultivation plan for this season has been increased from the previous one as a result of the return of a number of Farmers to grow it due to its economic viability.

As-Suwayda Governorate produced 301 tons of lentils last season within the cultivated areas amounting to 5160 dunums, noting that its cultivation is concentrated in the Shahba area and parts of the western Al-Sweida region.
