An assailant was killed on Tuesday by the Israeli army during an attempted knife attack in the southern occupied West Bank, the army said without immediately specifying whether it was a Palestinian.

Not long ago, there were reports of an attempted knife attack at the Gush Etzion crossroads, southwest of Bethlehem.
The attacker was neutralized,

Asked by AFP, the Israeli army then indicated that he "
was dead
".

opened fire on a citizen in south Bethlehem
".
Gush Etzion is an Israeli settlement block in the southern West Bank, Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 by the Hebrew state.
More than 450,000 Israelis reside in settlements - deemed illegal by international law - in the West Bank, where 2.8 million Palestinians live.
