The government of Panama announced this Monday that between January 18 and 25 it will receive 40,000 vaccines against covid-19 from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer.
This represents only the first batch of immunization treatment, Foreign Minister Erika Mouynes explained at a press conference.
The official revealed that the delivery date was specified on Monday morning.
He also assured that the government of Panama has guaranteed 5.5 million doses of vaccine against covid-19 for about 3 million citizens.

The chancellor indicated that the arrival of the vaccines will be done through a staggered schedule.
The commitment is that in the first quarter of the year 450,000 doses will be received for 250,000 people.
In addition, priority is given to the elderly and health personnel.
According to the Vice Minister of Health, Ivette Berrío, the government of Panama has already made a first payment of US $ 6 million to Pfizer.
The announcement comes when Panama registered 57 deaths from covid-19 this Monday.
It is the highest number of deaths reported in 24 hours since the pandemic began, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

It was also reported that there are 235 patients in intensive care affected by the coronavirus.
A figure that until Sunday was 218 seriously ill.
As of this Monday, there are 256,230 confirmed coronavirus cases in the country, of which 4,197 died, 203,688 recovered and 48,345 are active.
