The governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi, released on Tuesday a new decree related to the covid-19 pandemic that eliminates the total quarantine on Sundays and allows the opening of beaches, marinas and recreational parks.

In turn, a daily curfew is maintained from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am This new decree will be in effect from January 8 to February 7.

In December, the then governor, Wanda Vázquez, had ordered a total quarantine on Sundays and the closure of several businesses.

Now, commercial establishments must close at 10:00 pm and the physical distance of three meters between family units is requested.

Similarly, alcohol will not be allowed on beaches, parks, and recreational areas.

The Department of Natural Resources and the municipalities must place signs in these places with the rules of the decree.

The opening of recreational areas in urbanizations and condominiums with a capacity of 30% is allowed.

The Condominium Boards and Associations will establish the allowed number of people in relation to the number of residents.

Regarding the capacity of the commercial establishments, it remains the same at 30%.

Physical distancing is also maintained.

Other measures to face covid-19 in Puerto Rico

In addition to the new provision on quarantine in Puerto Rico, Pierluisi also announced several strategies that the government will carry out to combat the pandemic on various fronts.
