In the anniversary year we asked passers-by: What do you want Geretsried?

The answers were different, but there were also similarities.

At the end of the series, an evaluation.

Geretsried -

Happy Birthday: In the anniversary year we asked Geretsried what they would like their home town to celebrate 70 years of the community and 50 years of the city.

Our photographer Sabine Hermsdorf-Hiss interviewed exactly 301 citizens, a little more women than men, mostly in the city center.

During the Corona lockdown in spring, city councils also had their say.

The evaluation of all votes shows: None of the Geretsrieder is completely dissatisfied, but each and every one of them has ideas on how their hometown could become even more beautiful.

Some of it could be realized politically.

The daily “I wish Geretsried ...” was therefore given a lot of attention in the town hall.

"We followed the series with great attention," says Mayor Michael Müller when asked by our newspaper.

Even if it was not a representative survey, it reflects interesting snapshots, said the town hall chief.

“I read that the citizens surveyed are generally satisfied.

People think it's good how Geretsried is developing. "

Many appreciate the location and surroundings of Geretsried

In fact, many of the participants praise the openness of the city's population.

They appreciate the cultural diversity, the friendly atmosphere and the active club life.

It was often mentioned how great the city's location and surroundings are - close to the motorway and Lake Starnberg, with many opportunities for walking (28).

Many also rate the upswing through the design of the center positively.

35 Passers-by, however, is being built too much in Geretsried or they think the new buildings are too tall.

“We're not New York,” says a pensioner.

Perhaps that is why, unlike in the cosmopolitan city, there is no Rooftop Bar Geretsried.

A 24-year-old pleaded for a lounge on the roof of the PulsG.

Only one other respondent came up with the idea, but 33 others disagreed with it.

You would like more cafes, bars or restaurants, more opportunities to sit down longer in the evening or to be able to party together.

The lack of a community center was also discussed.

20 of the respondents missed meeting places for young people.

The target group was mixed.

The youngest participant was two, the oldest 86 years old.

In between there were all kinds of age and occupational groups, from family man to flight attendant to chemical technician.

The question was completely open, every passerby could express his or her subjective feelings.

The wishes therefore correspond to what is currently occupying each individual.

How about a bowling alley?

Eight passers-by mentioned a lack of childcare places, just as many wanted more affordable housing.

Eleven women and men criticized the fact that local supplies had broken down to stone.

Sometimes there is also something unusual.

For example a bowling, karting or even roller coaster, a tiny house village, an escape room, a shop for nail products for professionals or more places where dogs can let off steam.

Nine Geretsrieder spoke out in favor of the S-Bahn, three against.

Quite often, the wish list was: more playgrounds or more offers, even for the youngest, on the existing playgrounds (17), more bus connections, stops or a timetable corresponding to shift work (17) and a cinema (10).

The undisputed number one is shopping opportunities.

43 addressed this as part of the survey.

The needs are quite different - from more small shops to more specialized shops (traditional costumes, shoes, maternity wear, vintage clothing) to large chains.

The Swedish textile retail chain H&M is particularly popular.

Many want a hardware store

A hardware store is also a perennial favorite; for many, the way to Wolfratshausen or Bad Tölz is too far.

13 passers-by wish to be able to buy seals and co. In their hometown.

However, says Mayor Michael Müller, this is a topic of the market.

"If a private entrepreneur sees a commercially successful model in it, he will invest in Geretsried," said the town hall chief.

The fact that it has not happened so far means that there is no demand for a hardware store in Geretsried.

They are covered with Wolfratshausen and Bad Tölz.

The structural requirements are there.

"If a hardware store wants to come, we won't say no."

Some suggestions from the series are valuable, says Müller.

“We recorded some of it.” What the town hall chief cannot fully understand, however, is the desire for more greenery on Karl-Lederer-Platz (26).

He wonders how green it should still be.

“It's not a botanical garden, but a town square,” said the town hall chief.

"We really tried to make big plantings this time."
