Global GDP has contracted by 4% according to the latest World Bank estimates. The pandemic leaves rare survivors.


The recession that hit the world in 2020, due to a virus, is on a scale unprecedented since the two world wars.

This is what the World Bank recalls in its latest economic forecasts published on Tuesday.

Global GDP contracted last year by 4.3% according to calculations by the Washington institution.

From Europe to America, from Africa to Asia, not a continent has been spared by this historic double shock of demand - confined consumers - and supply - closed businesses.

And yet, in the face of this planetary tsunami, a handful of countries have survived, posting growth in their GDP in this disastrous year 2020. According to the latest forecasts from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which date back to the month by October, only one developed country would have escaped the recession.

This is Taiwan, whose control of the pandemic has often been cited as an example.
