An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale today shook New Zealand's Kermadec Islands.
"The earthquake struck at a depth of 26.12 kilometers, at a latitude of 29.0707 degrees south, and longitude 176.8993 degrees to the west," the US Geological Survey said in a statement.
New Zealand is located in a seismically active region in the Pacific Ocean, known as the Ring of Fire, which stretches for 40,000 km.
