At the dawn of the presidential election, Marine Le Pen balances her failed debate of 2017

2021-01-06T17:55:43.555Z

The candidate already declared for the 2022 election is doing her mea culpa in a documentary to be released on LCP on January 11 and 18.

To pour out a better clean slate.

On the eve of her third presidential campaign, Marine Le Pen has agreed to reflect at length on what remains one of her worst political memories: her poor performance during the 2017 presidential inter-round debate, facing Emmanuel Macron.

“I'm not looking for an excuse of any kind.

I take full responsibility for what happened, ”says

the president of the National Rally (RN), in a documentary to be released on January 11 and 18 on LCP.

Filmed by the director Benjamin Colmon and the journalist from

Les Échos

, Cécile Cornudet, the investigation dissects, in two episodes, these climaxes of the political confrontation under the Fifth Republic that are the presidential debates.

With a lot of testimonies and anecdotes, the document demonstrates all the singularity of this televised duel of almost four years ago.

"Everything I could say during these three hours of debate was perfectly correct"

Stressed, tired and ill-prepared - by the admission of her entourage - Marine Le Pen settles this May 3 on the set with

"fourteen cameras"

.

In front of her, a candidate on whom no one would have bet even 18 months before.

“In fact there are two possible strategies,

recalls Marine Le Pen.

Show who Emmanuel Macron is and what he is going to do, or show who Marine Le Pen is and what she is going to do.

I choose to show who Emmanuel Macron is.

I made the choice to be offensive.

May be too much.

"

The unfortunate candidate admits to having left

the exercise

“frustrated”

:

“I have the feeling that it escaped me by hiding behind extremely technical biases, without accepting the ideological debate

,

” she

broods.

If she concedes a

"missed appointment"

with the French on the form - as she had already done in October 2017 on the set of France 2, or in December 2018 on that of C8 -, the candidate now already declared in the presidential election of 2022 does not budge on the merits:

"Everything I could say during these three hours of debate was perfectly correct!"

Namely, a president's criticism of

"savage globalization, precariousness, brutality and the war of all against all."

Perhaps there lies the reason for this strangely expressed public contrition so long after.

Fifteen months before the next presidential election, Marine Le Pen thus hopes to settle once and for all this old debate between two rounds ... To better prepare the next one.

At least she hopes so, while the various polling institutes agree, for the time being, on the probability of a return match between the head of the RN and the President of the Republic in the final of the next presidential.
