More than 4,000 people demonstrated in several Austrian cities on Wednesday against the measures enacted to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, while the country is experiencing a third general confinement until January 24.

The largest demonstration gathered 2,500 people in Wiener Neustadt (east), according to police, who arrested several people for non-compliance with anti-Covid measures.
About 1000 other people gathered in Amstetten (north), and 500 in Judenburg (center).
Smaller protests, some presented as "
marches
" to escape restrictions on gatherings, were also recorded in several other towns in different parts of the country.
Rather spared by the first wave after being confined early, Austria, presented as a model student in the spring, is now struggling to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
She had to re-limit herself on Boxing Day, barely 20 days after a strict regime of restrictions was lifted.
