The provider Vodafone recently put its first two 5G mobile radio stations in the district into operation in Peiting and Altenstadt.

Peiting / Altenstadt

- The medium-term goal of a new infrastructure program is to connect the entire population in the region to the 5G network, the company announced.

Download HD films quickly, enjoy videos in HD quality and follow sports and cultural events in the live stream.

With the new 5G cellular technology, which follows LTE (4G), this is possible on cell phones or other mobile devices without any jerking.

Those responsible emphasize that the latency period is in the millisecond range.

In the "5G for the Weilheim-Schongau" project, the existing mobile network infrastructure will initially be largely used and the 5G antennas will be installed at the 31 mobile network locations wherever possible: for example on masts, observation towers, church towers and on the roofs of public buildings such as town halls and administrative offices as well as residential buildings.

The expansion is happening step by step, they say.

In the vicinity of the 5G stations, according to Vodafone, the new broadband technology can be used by everyone on site, provided they have a corresponding 5G device and a current contract from Vodafone.

Various 5G smartphone models are available for on the go or a 5G router for at home.

This means that 5G is also an alternative to slow DSL lines in the area around the stations for Internet supply.

Parallel to the development of the 5G network, the LTE network in the Weilheim-Schongau district is also being expanded.

"Currently 99.9 percent of the population in the district are connected to our mobile network and 99.8 percent of the residents are connected to the LTE network from Vodafone," the company says.

"By mid-2021, we will be realizing eight more LTE construction projects in the district."

Accordingly, LTE technology will be installed for the first time at six existing mobile radio stations in Peiting, Eberfing, Obersöchering (2), Schongau and Raisting.

Additional LTE antennas will also be installed at two existing LTE locations.

This is happening in Weilheim and Schongau.

The aim of the eight construction projects is to close LTE radio gaps and to increase the speeds and capacities in the coverage area of these LTE stations.
