An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit central Indonesia today, without any reports of injuries or damage.
"The earthquake struck the Punebelango area in Gorontalo province, and its epicenter was at a depth of 131 kilometers," the Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted an official in the Indonesian Meteorological Agency Aziz Wediarsu as saying.
There was no warning of a possible tsunami.
Indonesia is located in a seismically active region in the Pacific Ocean known as the "Ring of Fire", which stretches for 40,000 km.
