House of Representatives rejects objection to Pennsylvania's electoral vote

By CNN

The House of Representatives voted to reject an objection against the Pennsylvania Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden.

The measure was also thrown out in the Senate, with a 92-7 vote count.

The House and Senate will now reconvene in a joint session to continue counting the remaining Electoral College votes.

Remember: Any other objection must be in writing and must be supported by both a member of the House of Representatives and a senator, from any state.

The objections being considered by Vice President Mike Pence, whose duties include serving as president of the Senate, will force both houses to withdraw for an independent debate, which will be limited to a maximum of two hours.

Republican Senator from Texas slams Trump's rhetoric: "We hit rock bottom"

By Morgan Rimmer

(Photo by HANNAH MCKAY / POOL / AFP via Getty Images)

Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas said we "hit rock bottom," before suggesting that President Trump's rhetoric led to the attack on Capitol Hill.

“If you get that many people together and shake them up, you just won't be able to control them,” said the Texas Republican.

“And I don't know how the crowd is made up, that's one of the reasons you don't shake people up and say, 'go up and tell the people in the Capitol what you think about it,' because there will be some people who they will potentially infiltrate those groups and they will do things you don't want them to do.

When asked if Trump harmed himself to grassroots Republicans with today's actions, Cornyn said he doesn't know because of Trump's strong support, but added that he thinks "this will, this will create, I think, a rejection, because I don't think anyone will accept this as a satisfactory result. '

Republican senator says Pence is "very upset" with Trump's criticism of him

By Sarah Fortinsky

Senator Jim Inhofe, a Republican from Oklahoma, said he spoke with Vice President Mike Pence about President Trump's criticism of him, and Pence "was very upset with him."

Inhofe also called Trump's comments "regrettable."

Pence publicly broke up with Trump on Wednesday, saying he could not submit to demands to overturn the election results.

Pence formalized his views in a letter to lawmakers, declaring that he has "no unilateral authority to decide presidential races" and could not change the election results.

"It is my thoughtful judgment that my oath to support and defend the Constitution restricts me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should and should not be counted," he wrote.

House Judiciary Committee Democrats urge Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment

By Manu Raju

Members of the House Judiciary Committee urge Vice President Mike Pence and members of President Trump's cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution and remove Trump from office, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the night by the members of the commission.

“Even in his video announcement this afternoon, President Trump revealed that he is not mentally healthy and cannot yet process and accept the results of the 2020 elections. President Trump's willingness to incite violence and social unrest to override Election results by force clearly meet this standard.

So are his recent tweets, which Twitter deleted, saying that the election was 'stolen' and that today's riots 'are the things and the events that happen,' "the members said in the statement.

CNN previously reported that some Cabinet members are conducting preliminary discussions on invoking the 25th Amendment, according to a Republican source.

Lindsey Graham: "Don't count on me, enough is enough"

By Maureen Chowdhury

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who has been a strong supporter of President Trump, vigorously advocated to certify electoral votes in the full Senate.

Graham said he believed that voting to oppose the results is a "unique bad idea to delay this election."

“Trump and I, we have had an incredible journey.

I hate ending this way.

Oh my gosh, I hate it.

From my point of view, he has been a momentous president.

But today, they will see a first time.

All I can say is not counting on me is enough, ”Graham said.

We have to put an end to it.

Vice President Pence, what they ask you to do you will not do, because you cannot, "he said.

Former President Barack Obama says today's events were "prompted by a sitting president."

Former President Barack Obama issued a statement after today's violence on Capitol Hill, imploring Republicans to "choose reality and take the first steps to extinguish the flames."

Obama added: “I was encouraged to see many members of the President's party speaking out forcefully today.
