52 foreign workers at a construction site in Yavne have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease in Corona in recent days.

The municipality said the patients and the isolated were transferred to an isolated residential compound in order to treat them and prevent the spread of the disease.

The municipality also stated that it "is in constant contact with the employing company, the Ministry of Health, the HMOs and the Home Front Command to ensure an optimal response, including closing the residential complex and preventing the entry and exit of unauthorized persons, performing corona tests and more."

The construction industry has been excluded in previous closures, and one of the problems that has arisen is the lack of enforcement of corona guidelines at sites as well as inspection of accommodation.

Hadas Tagri, a member of the Group for Combating Construction and Industrial Accidents, said that this was a time when they were warning "that foreign workers, living in overcrowded housing, are at serious risk of widespread infection in Corona, and that the authorities must act to protect them." "Among other things, by conducting periodic inspections that will prevent the widespread spread of infection, as we are unfortunately witnessing in this case."

According to her, "the increase in the serious illness that we are witnessing these days requires increased action to protect the health of the workers and in particular their vulnerable ones due to their working conditions and accommodation."

In a discussion in the Welfare and Labor Committee in March on the issue, MK Aida Toma Suleiman (joint list) said that "this is a scandal that excludes an entire industry outside the emergency regulations and outside the emergency positioning and tells workers: keep working as usual, but do not really care first. "I will enforce their safety conditions in terms of the corona, and for someone to do the work in the field and be able to get to the sites to be sure they are safe and not contagious."
